Drago Endorses: Hanging out with people who are different from you
Last night we were at The Ugly Mug in southeast DC and we had the pleasure of drinking with a group of really cool Gallaudet students. Gallaudet is a college in DC that is almost exclusively for deaf people. They invented the football huddle.
Anyway, the dudes were really cool. We were all typing conversations on our cell phones and pdas, we stole a bunch of receipts from the bar and were writing on them too. It was very difficult to write legibly towards the end of the night but it was still really fun. It’s funny to have drunk, bar conversations in writing. Also, most of the dudes were gay and they though Felix was hot, so that was funny too.
Then we started talking to this other guy about how he had to get a restraining order against his baby’s mama, when we noticed that he was missing half of his left hand. So we said “Hey dude, what’s up with your hand?” and he was like “which one?” But he was just kidding. He lost his index and middle finger and half of his thumb in a table saw accident years ago. He used to be a talented musician before the accident and he was working in a wood shop to pay the bills and his manager made him use a machine that he wasn’t familliar with and he lost half of his hand. Fucking crazy. But he was pretty much cool about it,
“I’m gonna get a couple mill from the lawsuit and I’m learning to play the piano and guitar with my other hand, I’m just trying to keep custody of my kids right now is all.”
It was definitely a fun night.

Hey,
Please don’t say deaf people are disabled. It’s not true! And that’s not how they see themselves. There is nothing wrong with their brains or their limbs. They form a linguistic minority, just like any other linguistic minority.
Thanks
